Boost your mood with our Valentine’s Day Chocolate Mousse!
Did you know that chocolate has all kinds of health benefits?! Get this, 1-2 teaspoons of raw cacao a day, or 40 grams of dark chocolate, has been proven to significantly lower stress levels. Chocolate is also known to improve metabolism, and boosts levels of dopamine and serotonin among many other things! So this Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge and enjoy this simple and fun dessert!
Avocados contain lots of healthy fats, such as omega-3s. These fats will enhance your mood and energy by increasing levels of dopamine and production of endorphins. Their Vitamin E content can improve brain function, coordination, and balance. Avocados are a source of tryptophan, which is an essential amino acid to include in our diet because our body cannot produce it alone. Tryptophan is associated with lowering levels of depression, and it is a necessary component in the production of serotonin, which in turn promotes relaxation.
Valentine’s Day Avocado Chocolate Mousse
2 very ripe (8-ounce) avocados, peeled and pitted
1/3 maple syrup or raw organic honey
1/2 raw cocoa powder
1/2 cup almond milk or full fat coconut milk
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
Fresh raspberries, for garnish
Place all ingredients into a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Spoon into glasses and refrigerate for at least 3 hours (can be prepared 1 day in advance). Garnish with fresh raspberries or pomegranates. Serve and enjoy!
